This week we'll be starting our unit on The Blues. We'll learn to play the blues on the keyboards and drums, and then add an improvisation using the hexatonic blues scale on the marimba and band instruments. We'll memorize the 12-bar chord form and write lyrics to the three sentences of blues.
Students are creating their Music History Storybooks. We are creating the pages that describe the music of the Baroque Age. We are listening to music from Bach and Scarlatti and playing handbells and ukeleles.
Students are finishing their study of the music of Africa, singing "Turn the World Around" and listening to the music of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Playing quiz on Turn the World Around is this week. We're choosing which instrument to build next month in class as we review the authentic instruments of each of the cultures we've studied. Next week we'll begin the music and rhythms of Brazil.
