Students finished writing their Junky Funky Music Compositions this past week. We wrote pieces for four instruments using rhythm, ostinato, timbre, texture, dynamics and melody. Each student composed and performed for their classmates. Oklahoma test was also finished. We started our
class discussion of the musical and began to understand the start of American Musical Theater with the widespread love of Minstrel Shows in the 1800's. Next week we'll play instruments from Minstrel Shows and learn about the American composer Stephen Foster.
Students are learning about music of the Renaissance. We're doing a Trading Cards Project about the crazy instruments created in the Renaissance and we
are learning about the musical tool of polyphony. We continue to play the Ukelele and do our drumming.
We're learning about the music of India. The concept of Indian Classical music and the use of the Raga and Tala with improvisation. Some classes listened to the Sitar, and did pretend Henna tattoos on their hands. We're playing our keyboards and beginning to learn the song Jingle Bells. Drumming, Body percussion and singing.....
