Learning about the music of America's first professional Songwriter, Stephen Foster. We are singing his songs, playing Oh Susannah on classroom instruments, and learning about his effect on American copyright laws for music. We are working on our contemporary music project, with the paragraph due before vacation. Next week we'll do our playing quiz on Oh Susannah and written quiz on all the composers we've studied through Stephen Foster.
We are learning the music of the Baroque. We're playing a song by JS Bach on the ukelele, playing drums, reading rhythms, and creating a word bank for describing music. Next week we'll rank five pieces of Baroque music and describe them, finish learning the history of Baroque music, and play Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (JS Bach) on the hand bells.
We're studying rhythm, form, and melody in music using the music of Africa as our source. Playing the drums, singing Turn the World Around, playing keyboards, reading rhythms, and learning about the wonderful instruments of Africa. Next week we'll take our playing quiz on Turn the world around, learn to 'gumboot dance' and play drum rhythms in 5/4 meter.
