2. Students volunteer to create a 4 beat rhythm, put together the rhythms of 2-4 students and create a theme
3. The whole class learns the pattern.

5. The class performs the 4 bar pattern, intact, 2 times.
6. Now, a single player adds a simple sound/pattern to our theme on the 3rd time through.
7. Another single player adds a different simple sound/pattern ont he 4th time through.
Now we have a theme and variations form, a simple repeating theme, but then we make small changes to it every time we begin it again, these are the "variations."
