8th grade. West Side Story due after February break. You can sign it out from the library, watch it on my website, or get it on OnDemand, Netflix or Amzon Video if you have those at home. We are studying the music of early America, Scott Joplin this past week, moving on to JohnPhilip Sousa this week, the emergence of the blues, Robert Johnson, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Louis Armstrong.
7th Grade We are finishing up our study of Baroque music. Review this week, and quiz next week. We'll move on to the music of the Classical Age, with a focus ont he music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We will be watching an edited version of the movie Amadeus in class.
6th Grade We are studying music using the instruments, rhythms and songs of the continent of Africa. Drumming, singing, and Gumboot dancing. We are continuing to use Body percussion to learn our rhythms, playing piano keyboards, and now we are beginning a study of reading more sophisticated rhytmic notation.
Band is learning to play a version of the New World Symphony, Mambo #5, and the Theme from Jurassic Park.
Chorus is learning a song from Into the Woods, and some older standard American pop music, Danny Boy, Over the Rainbow, and Singing in the Rain.
