Ten Tips for success in music and school!!
(and in life...)
1. Think first.
Think before you speak, or act, or write.
Try to see the positive and negative impact of what you are about to do and decide purposefully what you want the outcome to be.
2. Respect.
Consider what is best for yourself, the other students and teacher, and your world. Try to value those things that are truly valuable and don't waste your time on frivolous words or actions. Know what is yours to give and what is yours to take.
Know who you are and how you can contribute.
Understand the value in others.
3. Improve every day.
With every day that passes, improve on everything you do.
You can never be perfect, but never settle for leaving a skill or a relationship as it is. As long as you always make it better, even a tiny amount, then your life will be ever stronger, and happy.
4. Make friends.
Friends are one of your most valuable assets in school and in life. Do kind things for people and learn their names. Introduce people to each other who you know could help each other.
Eat lunch with different people everyday.
Know the name and phone number of every single person in your class/grade/school/youth group/sports team/church or synagogue/extended family.
5. Be Prepared
Agenda, computer, headphones, clean hands and teeth, fire escapes/, how to use the phone, dress properly, personal space for hands and feet, homework done.
Spend ten minutes every day on your goals, read, practice, listen.....
6. Willing to learn
Realize there is more knowledge in the world than any one person can ever learn. Recognize that every person you meet has something to teach you. Be greedy to learn as much as you can, never sit back and think you know it all.
7. Willing to teach.
Be willing to share what you know. Help a friend with homework, solving a problem, or just be a role model. When you know how to do something right, do it!
Be a good example for your community.
8. Follow directions (not the crowd)
Learn to listen and read directions carefully. All the knowledge and skills of the world can be obtained by reading, thinking, and following directions. Be patient with yourself and your understanding, know what you don't know, and take the time to understand. Don't follow the crowd. Just because everyone else is doing it, that doesn't make it good.
The truth is not a matter of public opinion.
9. Be proactive
Look to the future, try to solve problems before they become problems. If you can see the consequence of your actions and inactions, choose the right path to avoid trouble for yourself. When you know you are going to be absent, ask for work early,........ if you are feeling sick, go to bed early, if you don't understand something ask for help when it is first assigned,
not when it's due..
10. Accept responsibility
You are not perfect, how will you deal with it?
When you make mistakes, admit them and figure out a way to make it better. Do not blame others for things that are in your control, consider your weaknesses and find ways to compensate. Do not beat yourself up for your weaknesses, we all have problems and weaknesses and self doubt.
You are valuable and loved.
